Murray Arbeid was a British Designer based in London He eventually opened a boutique in Paris for his European clientele and that is where this dress was bought. Made of silk velvet the bodice is very fitted to the hips and flairs out to a full skirt which is achieved by a built in crinoline. There are 2 spaghetti straps in the velvet to hold up the dress. The top of the bust line is double over and sewn to give it structure and design. What adds to this dress are the rows of gold sequins in a leaf shape as the skirt gets fuller the leaves are sewn on an angle so they look uniform, a master design technique. It zips up the back to below the shoulder blades. Above this there is a band with a bow on it. The bow is closed with hook and eyes. He once said in an interview if there was a Noble Prize for taffeta he would win. His most famous client was Princess Diana and Estée Lauder.
