The early 60s saw a shift in fashion, gone are the full skirts of the decade before. Slick lines with minimal decorations were in vogue. The design of this dress is a fitted strapless like bodice with spaghetti straps, skirt that is also straight. The skirt has a side slit. The draping starts at the knees and is gathered at the waist, continuing to the top of the bodice. It goes around to the other side giving the effect of a shawl around the shoulders. There are 2 spaghetti straps that hold up the bodice. The belt is in matching fabric and is attached by hooks and eyes. Zips up the side for closure. There are 2 layers of fabric on this dress, the underneath is taupe silk taffeta. The outer layer is silk chiffon with orange, brown and yellow flowers on it. It does have a flocked velvet feel.
