The Lester’s consider themselves artists and not designers. They have been in the business for over 50 years producing one of a kind garments in Wales. This evening ensemble consists of a Cocoon style top and a pleated skirt. The top is a deep forest green velvet. The lining is teal. The velvet is done in a devoré technique which is also called burnout. A chemical process to creat a transparent pattern often done in the 1920s. It gives the top a ribbon pattern. The style of the top is often called cocoon meaning it is oversized and very little shape like a butterfly cocoon. Large dolman sleeves come in at the wrist. The top has fabric covered buttons for closure it is longer in the back. The skirt is done in a pleated manner that looks like Fortuny’s Delphos dresses. Mary McFadden and Issey Miyske were known to do the same pleating technique. The color of the skirt is teal. The skirt is high waisted and has elastic at the waistband.
