He started out designing jewelry and moved over to clothing in the late 1960s. He reinvented himself in the 1980s with beaded with stretch material. This unitard or body suit is from the mid to late 1980s. The great part of this ensemble is the fact that all 3 pieces are together, most others are missing the belt. The body suit is totally beaded in small caviar beads in a scroll pattern reminiscent of the baroque textiles of Italy where Giorgio often got his inspiration. The mock turtleneck has large jet round beads. The back has a large oval opening. There are snaps at the bottom for closure the pants are beaded on net and are non fitted . The pattern of the beads is an upside down flowers. Often Giorgio would mix patterns in the same colors, tops, pants and skirts were often sold separately so the buyer could mix and match. The pants are fully lined to the ankle so the last 2 inches so you can see the shoes that were worn with the ensemble. The belt is worn on the hips and is beaded horizontally to give contrast and also to give the wearer height. Giorgio showed his last collection in Fall/winter of 1989 for he was gravely sick and died in January of 1990. His assistant Martin Price continued to show for another 2 years before closing the business.
