As the decade progressed in the 50s full skirts became narrow. A sleeker look was desired. This dress is all about the fabric. Gold thread is woven in this silk brocade giving it luster. Sleeveless dress with a low Ved neckline is fitted through the bodice. The dress is actually a wrap dress. The overlay wraps around the front asymmetrically and closes with gold filigree buttons. There are 2 tiers to the skirt. The second longer skirt I comes underneath and is sewn to the shorter. The shorter skirt has weights sewn at the hem so it will not ride up and has slits on the side so you can see the under skirt. The loose fitting jacket closes at the neck with a tie and has 3/4 sleeves. There is a thin belt that is the same fabric as the tie on the jacket.
