Red Dress is Valentino’s signature like the black dress is Coco Chanel. This red chiffon dates from the late 1960s to early 70s due to the fact that it is silk and not a silk blend. Valentino started his house in 1962 after working for Dessès and LaRoche. Very thin spaghetti straps hold up a ruched bodice. The ruching is fanned out with the larger pleated being at the end. Underneath the breast line there is a pleated square. The pleats are extremely tight. Underneath the square is the pleats get larger and are vertical as a posed to the square which is horizontal. That layer of chiffon is sewn asymmetrical to bottom of the dress. There are 2 more layers of chiffon underneath. The hem of all three layers of the chiffon is rolled so that when you walk or dance the dress flows and moves. This dress is Italian workmanship at it’s best.. Valentino is a master of chiffon, he probably learned it from Dessès. Measures as follows Shoulders measuring between the straps is 14, Bust 34, Waist 26, Hips 38, Length 56 from Top of Strap one small mark on outer layer of chiffon but you do not see it for it is hidden in the drape of the dress.
