Dominican born Oscar de La Renta was trained by Balenciaga before he moved to the United States. When he came to the United States he became one of the designers who dressed Jacqueline Kennedy. This dress dates from the late 1970s and the workmanship is incredible. The black base is 100% sequins sewn on a slight diagonal so it would pick up the light. The cotton chantilly lace is ruched at the neck and the cuffs as well. The intricate sequined work of the flowers on the left shoulder down to the breast area is a master piece. There are more than one shade and almost look embroidered. There is a slight puff to the shoulders, fitted bodice, and a straight skirt. It is lined in silk crepe, to give it stiffness. Snaps up the black with one hook and eye at the waist. Shoulders 14, sleeves 24, armhole 8, bust 34, waist 27, hips 40, length 46. Excellent condition.
