B Altman was the first big department store to make the move from the ladies mile which was where most women bought their clothes. They moved to 5th Ave which was primarily still residential with the gilded age mansions. The store itself had many different departments including a custom made including the inner circle. The inner circle was the department that dealt with the latest trends. The is long tunic made of cotton velvet in a rich royal purple was the trend in London and in Paris in the late 70s to early 80s. Often worn with long skirts or pants. This ensemble has pants high were made to order. The pants themselves are a contrasting satin which is also the lining. B Altman had an extensive tailoring and seamstress department so often custom made outfits were done in a day or two. They imported fashion from Paris and copied them. The tunic buttons up the front, buttons have the matching velvet so when it’s fully closed it looks like a coat. Rounded collar, tailored through the bodice to a flared skirt. There are a few marks very small marks on the velvet but not noticeable. Pants are slightly faded at the top but will not be noticeable with the tunic.
